Family of Freddie Gray, 25, sought damages for his death on April 19, 2015 from a severe spinal cord injury sustained while in Baltimore Police custody. Gray was arrested on April 12, 2015 and transported in a police van without being secured with a seatbelt. Six officers were involved: Caesar Goodson Jr. (van driver), William Porter, Lt. Brian Rice, Edward Nero, Garrett Miller, and Sgt. Alicia White. All six were criminally charged; all were acquitted or had charges dropped.
