Parents Kadiatou and Saikou Diallo filed suit after NYPD Street Crime Unit Officers Sean Carroll, Kenneth Boss, Edward McMellon, and Richard Murphy fired 41 shots at unarmed immigrant Amadou Diallo, 23, on February 4, 1999 in the vestibule of his Bronx apartment building, striking him 19 times and killing him. Officers claimed they mistook Diallo's wallet for a weapon. All four officers were acquitted of criminal charges in February 2000. Claims of excessive force, wrongful death, racial profiling, and civil rights violations.
