Family of Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman, alleges Deputy Sean Grayson used excessive and deadly force by shooting Massey in the face on July 6, 2024, after she called 911 to report a prowler at her Springfield, IL home. Grayson shot Massey in her kitchen during the welfare check. Claims of excessive force, wrongful death, and failure to properly screen and supervise officers under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
