Family of Philando Castile, 32, sought damages for his death on July 6, 2016 when St. Anthony Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez shot him during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights, MN. Castile informed Yanez he had a licensed firearm; Yanez fired seven shots. Castile's girlfriend Diamond Reynolds livestreamed the aftermath. Yanez was acquitted of second-degree manslaughter at trial.
